Your partner needs to know exactly what you are thinking. Making comments like, "it's up to you", "whatever you decide I'll support you", or "I don't mind what you do", doesn't necessarily help your partner to make a decision. She will probably find it easier if it's a joint decision that you both can take responsibility for. Men can be equally affected as women by an abortion. Trying to come to terms with an abortion can cause friction and hurt, especially if one partner was unsure that it was the right decision. It is important that men are involved in the decision making, giving both partners time to think and talk through the issues with an unplanned pregnancy. Amica sees both men and women for post abortion support. A male client commented on completion of the post abortion counselling, "My counsellor helped me unravel the mess that was in my head. I honestly don't know what would have happened had I not come to Amica. Having someone who cared to talk to was big help, but the fact that she was able to make sense of the way I was feeling and the thoughts I was having made all the difference."
