Amica
representatives are willing to speak at any school or youth groups.
The presentation gives pupils the opportunity to consider why there is
still such a huge problem with unplanned pregnancies. There is time to
look at the choices available to people when they face an unplanned pregnancy,
including how a person would manage bringing up a child, what it means
to place a child for adoption, and the issues surrounding abortion.
Amica has visited Balerno Community High School, George Watsons College,
Gillespies High School, Gracemount High School, Liberton High School,
Firrhill High School, Beeslack Community School in Penicuik,
Preston Lodge High School in Prestonpans, St Maragaret's, St. Georges,
James Young High School in Livingston, Queen Anne High School in Dunfermline.
Some
of the comments from pupils have included:
"Other pupils may not know things like that"
"It would be interesting to hear more as it is an important subject"
"I actually learned an awful lot"
"They were open to any views and opinions"
"As many pupils as possible should be given the information"
"Younger children should hear this information"
"Come back and tell us more"
"It's informative but not biased"
"They didn't express a view on whether abortion was a good idea or
not, they just offered advice"
"Covered all we wanted to know"
"It was good because we had a part in it"
"It really makes you think about what you might do if you got in
a situation"
"I found out stuff that I didn't know already"
"They listened to what we had to say and I didn't feel nervous
about saying anything"
"I think all pupils should know the information they taught"
