Post Abortion Support
For some people it can take time to heal from the experience of having a pregnancy terminated. Some women and men may experience feelings of regret, guilt, loss, anger or depression after a termination. This can happen immediately after the event, but sometimes not until many years later.
Amica offers a counselling & support programme called The Journey. Many of our clients who have gone through similar experiences have found this beneficial.
Clients comment:
“From the very beginning I was treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality. I began to open up and realise things about myself and how to deal with them.”
“It is amazing how the Journey works. I was shown a diagram of how I could go downhill emotionally and then I would emerge, and this is exactly what happened. It was hard going and at points the grief and anger overwhelmed me, but to emerge at the end stronger and wiser was worth the work.”
“From the first moment I spoke to a counsellor at Amica I knew that I had at last found people who cared and understood the complex and frightening emotions that I was experiencing.”
Participation in this programme is open to both women and men.
Miscarriage Support
Amica offers bereavement support to those who have experienced loss through miscarriage. Please contact us to find out more about The Journey programme for miscarriage recovery.
Practical support, advice & information
Need practical help or support? Don't think you can manage alone? Amica offers a befriending service - people willing to support you whatever your decision is. Amica can give you information on other services and benefits which may be of help to you. We also keep a stock of maternity clothes, baby clothes and equipment for families who can make use of them.
Teenage Education
Amica visits a number of schools in the Lothian area to talk about the issues surrounding unplanned pregnancy.
Our aim is to equip young people with knowledge of where they can go for help and support, as well as the skills to help them make a decision in what may be a difficult and stressful situation for them.
The interactive presentations we offer encourage young people to consider what it might be like to be faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Pupils get an opportunity to discuss what the potential consequences of choosing between parenting, abortion and adoption might be and what they think about each of the options. Even for those who may never be in such a situation firsthand, having this knowledge can help them support a friend or family member who may go through the experience of a crisis pregnancy.
Amica’s programme is designed to dovetail into the SHARE curriculum used by most local secondary schools.
If you are a teacher and want to know more about arranging Amica to visit your school drop us an email at enquiries@amicapcc.org or call 0131 667 7800.
Health Centre visits
Amica representatives are available to give a presentation to Health Professionals about the work of local pregnancy crisis centres and CareConfidential. These sessions give an opportunity for questions and discussion about our services, or a chance to learn about some of the tools we use in our work.
If you are interested in arranging a presentation for your Health Centre then contact us on email at enquiries@amicapcc.org or call 0131 667 7800.
