background
The Amica Pregnancy Crisis Centre opened in May 2000 after 2 years of planning and preparation. A few individuals had the vision to see a centre established in Edinburgh, recognising the need for people to have time to discuss their options when faced with an unplanned pregnancy.

what is a pcc?
A Pregnancy Crisis Centre is a safe and accepting place for people to go when they are faced with a difficulty related to pregnancy. Trained volunteers are available to listen, offer confidential, non-judgemental information, advice and ongoing support, whether people decide to continue with a pregnancy, go ahead with an abortion or place a child for adoption.

Amica is an independent charity offering a free service with complete confidentiality and anonymity for clients.

Post abortion support is available for those struggling to come to terms with a past abortion.

whats in a name?
Many people find themselves in a dilemma when faced with an unplanned pregnancy or pregnancy problems, and are often left in the lonely situation of wondering what the way forward is. Friendship, help and guidance are needed. These are the very things that the Amica Pregnancy Crisis Centre aims to offer, and are the inspiration for the Amica identity.

The Maze illustrates how people can
often become stuck in difficult and
puzzling situations.

They feel lost, cannot see the way
out and sometimes need a friend to show
them the way forward.

Amica, the Latin for friend, and where the word amicable comes from, represents the caring guidance and friendship found in the Pregnancy Crisis Centre.

People who find themselves in a crisis situation, who feel like they are lost in a maze with no obvious way out, can turn to Amica for the support and friendship they so desperately need.
